Colorado Insurance charitable highlights

Inter-Faith Community Services – Ready, Set, School!

The back to school backpack drive is one of the many charities Colorado Insurance participates in. Each employee goes and buys a backpack, school supplies, and first day of school clothes and shoes for a child in any grade from Kindergarten to 8th grade. With our company growing, the amount of backpacks we donate rises every year. Last year alone we were able to donate 32 backpacks, which is a great impact for the cause.

Currently this year, we have applied for the Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Award and qualified. This award recognizes independent insurance agencies that make more happen in their community by volunteering for a non-profit organization focused on education, health, and safety. Safeco increases the impact of the agency’s volunteerism with a $3,000 donation to the nonprofit organization it supports. In addition to the $3,000 Safeco is giving Ready, Set, School! In honor of us, we have a chance to win an additional $10,000 through an online voting contest. In 2015 we have the possibility of getting around 1300 backpacks to children in need.

9Cares Colorado Shares

Every year around Thanksgiving time we start collecting for 9Cares Colorado Shares program. This charity is very important to Colorado Insurance and has become a staple to our charitable activities. Not only do Colorado Insurance employees and their families donate non-perishable food items and money, we also place boxes at our preferred partner’s offices to encourage them to participate in the event. Ownership also plays a huge roll in enhancing our donations, year after year. We have won the small business category of this charity 2 years running!

Toys for Tots

Just like the 9Cares Colorado Shares; Toys for Tots is a charity that we feel very strongly about. Colorado Insurance and its employees donate a large amount of toys to this cause around the holidays to ensure that less fortunate children receive gifts.

Baseball sponsorships

In addition to donating to charities, Colorado Insurance also loves to support local High school teams. All of the money contributed for sponsorships helps with fields, uniforms, equipment, etc. This year we have chosen to support boys Baseball teams, however we like switching it up between many different sports.

  • Highlands Ranch High School
  • Arapahoe High School
  • Colorado Crushers Youth Sports Association
  • Columbine High School

University of Colorado Foundation

Every year we donate a lump sum for the RMI Program available to students for an education. The RMI Program provides support for students in the Risk Management and Insurance Program at the University of Colorado Denver Business School.

Marine Corps Scholarship Fund

This is also an organization where we donate at least once a year. The Marine Corps Scholarship fun honors marine and navy corpsmen by supporting the education dreams of their children to pursue their shared ambition of graduating from accredited community college, universities, and vocational/technical institutions.

Maggie’s House

Maggie’s house is a great cause we donate to in support of Mothers and children. Maggi’s House provides a warm and safe home for homeless women and children, while developing into self-sufficient individuals by providing and implementing sustainable programs to break the cycle of homelessness. As well as donating a large sum once a year, Mike Mathisen is also on the board of directors.
